Ensure a Perfect Match for Replacement
If you already have an anchor chain and want to replace it with the same type, accurate measurement is crucial—especially when the old chain is worn and hard to identify
1. Measure One Single Link Accurately
We only need to measure one link of your existing anchor chain. Please use a high-precision caliper (not a ruler) to get accurate data.
For that single link, measure these 4 key dimensions:
-
dn – Wire Diameter (thickness of the metal bar)
-
P1 – Inside Length (inner length of the link)
-
W1– Inside Width (inner width of the link)
-
W– Outside Width

*Due to wear and rust, the chain size might have slightly changed. Try to measure a relatively unworn link for better accuracy.
2. Match the Right Standard
We will compare your measurements against standard anchor chain types like:
-
DIN766
-
ISO4565
-
NACM 2010
-
Australian short link chain
Even with the same wire diameter, different standards have different link shapes. A mismatch may cause your windlass to jam or skip.

3. Unsure? Test with a Sample
If your measurements fall between two possible standards, we will recommend sending a 1-meter sample chain based on our analysis. You can loop it on your gypsy (chain wheel) to check for a smooth fit before placing a full order.
If you're still unsure about the calibration standard of your existing anchor chain, the ShakeSure team is always ready to assist you. Simply send us the measurements or photos, and we'll help you identify the most suitable option quickly and accurately.
